David's Bridal Navigation & Checkout

David's Bridal Global Navigation
and Checkout Redesign

November 2011
Redesign of the main navigation to support the Mini-Cart function and to follow accessibility standards
Full overhaul of the checkout to take the site from a 7 page checkout to a 3 page checkout (start to finish). Also created a method to visually display and edit the cart at all times throughout the checkout flow.
How it worked

To initiate the checkout process of this site, weinterviewed clients and documented how I could help increase usability anddevelop new features for Davidsbridal.com. From ourdiscussions, we found that the main UX tasks were to clean up the primarynavigation components (header and footer) as well as to audit and revise thesite’s checkout flow to simplify use and insure compliance with usability standards. We also were tasked to make recommendations for adding a mini-cart feature toallow the user more visibility into their potential purchases.

Following discovery, I conducted a heuristicevaluation of the website’s main navigation elements and the checkout flow tobetter understand the challenges in the current system. I reviewed thecheckout flow and developed the functionality for a new mini-cart by conductinga competitive analysis including the collection of examples of successful checkoutflows and mini-cart implementations.

Being part of the RealDecoy UX team I created wireframes andconcepts and reviewed the proposed changes with the David’s Bridal team. Following wireframe approval of the Main Navigation, the Mini-Cart, and an allnew single page checkout flow, the Graphic Design task was initiated.
